Overview

Petgrave.io's product team developed a digital platform that streamlines recyclable waste collection and management for recycling businesses and their customers. The goal was to improve recycling behaviour, provide access to digital tools for waste collection optimization, and deliver data-driven insights to enhance decision-making and community engagement.


The Challenge

Recyclable waste management was a complex and fragmented process, with numerous stakeholders, including waste generators, collection service providers, and municipal authorities. Petgrave.io was tasked with:

  • Researching and gathering requirements to create a compelling value proposition, business model, and product strategy

  • Communicating the product requirements to the development team and coordinating the development, testing, and iteration phases

  • Developing a prototype of the product application and testing its viability with target customers


Our Approach

  1. Discovery and Strategy: Petgrave.io's product management team conducted a comprehensive needs assessment for customers across different market segments, including households, businesses, and municipal authorities. This involved case studies, user interviews, and in-depth analysis to determine the key value drivers and pain points.

  2. Product Design and Development: The team managed the ideation, design, and development of a minimum viable product (MVP), along with creating detailed product documentation and a content strategy for the company's website. This included designing the data model, mapping the object-oriented user experience (OOUX), and creating low-fidelity mockups.

  3. Validation and Iteration: Petgrave.io developed a series of hypothesis tests, a lead generation funnel, and educational content to validate the product's viability and gather feedback from target customers. The insights from this process were then used to refine the product roadmap and guide the next iteration of development.


Technologies and Tools

The Petgrave.io team leveraged a variety of tools and technologies to develop the digital recycling management platform:

  • Collaboration and Project Management: Miro, Jira, and Trello were used for ideation, task tracking, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Design and Prototyping: Figma was the primary design tool for creating user interface mockups and interactive prototypes.

  • Data Modeling: Excel, entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs), and object-oriented user experience (OOUX) mapping were used to define the data model and user experience.

  • Business and Strategy: The team utilised tools like the Business Model Canvas and Value Proposition Canvas to shape the product strategy and business model.
